“My musical career started with classical piano training as a 10 year old. Soon I caught interest in blues and jazz improvisation and in styles that merged classical, jazz, folk, funk etc. Eventually this led me to my first solo recording in 1993, presenting a varied program based on many different influences. Every new album is an exciting yet challenging  journey where you could keep on forever to maximize elements, but have to conclude at some point, in order to not go crazy! My main goal in the artistic process has been to develop a depth in composition and musical performance, with the acoustic piano as an important tool. A new composition has its own life and identity, leading me where to go in terms of sound, arrangement, orchestration or type of ensemble. Playing solo I find the path even more open where I can tell stories in a personal way. Still, I aim to keep my artistic intention and signature intact inside different musical situations” – Jan Gunnar Hoff
